Climate Action Programme for Schools and Youth

POST: Project Leader

PROJECT: Climate Action Teams (CATs) Project

The Climate Action teams Project (CATs) will work with secondary school leavers to form Community-Based Organisations in 20 locations across Kenya. Young people from 18 years will be informed on environmental, social and economic issues and guided to develop micro-projects as ‘green businesses’ that support their own livelihoods , while at the same time raising awareness and stimulating action amongst their communities. CATs will be an exciting project that will have the capacity to influence decision making and stimulate action that supports effective sustainable development for Kenyan society.
The project is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Leader. The position is based in Nairobi

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day to day project activities
  • Implement the recommendations of the project management team
  •  Provide technical and to some extent administrative support to the project
  • Supervise the implementation of various project activities in collaboration with other project staff and stakeholders
  • Plan and coordinate training of youth to build ‘green businesses’ and create community awareness and action on social and environmental concerns
  • Prepare financial and narrative reports as per the project agreement
  •  The project leader will serve as a project secretariat
  •  Conduct monitoring and evaluation of the project activities

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should possess the following minimum requirements:-
  •  He/she must have at least a first degree in one of the following:
  • Environment Sciences, Education, Natural Resource Management,
  •  Must demonstrate leadership skills
  • IT literate
  • Must have basic financial management skill
  • Must have project management skills
  •  Must have at least two years working experience with youth and community
  • Self motivated, self starter with initiative

PROJECT: Kenya Climate Challenge Project (KCCP)

The Kenya Climate Challenge Project has grown out of the former International Climate Challenge (ICC) project, which worked in Kenya, India and UK. In Kenya ICC reached out to 120 secondary schools across 20 locations. The new KCCP pilot project works with one (ICC) secondary school and one primary school in each of the 20 locations. The project will develop a combined focus on Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). This will be an exciting project that develops innovative interactions to motivate young people and their communities to take action on issues of concern.

The project is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Officer. The position is based in Thika.

 Responsibilities

  •  To work with the Project Leader (KCCP) to implement the recommendations of the project management team
  • To assist with implementation of various project activities in collaboration with other project staff and stakeholders
  • Prepare financial and narrative reports as per the project agreement
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation of project activities

The newly-formed School of Agriculture and Food Sciences at The University of Queensland (Australia) will be advertising two academic positions (one Lecturer and one Senior Lecturer) in the broad Discipline of Soil Science, which includes the areas of soil biology/microbiology, soil physics, soil chemistry, or plant nutrition. The University of Queensland was one of only six institutions in Australia to have the sub-discipline of Soil Science rated in the ERA outcomes, with the group performing "above international standard".
